How fast can a stock 5.0 go

I just want to see what some of you guys have accomplished drag racing a fairly stock 5.0. With and without any power adders

Scones 10-19-2011 09:17 AM

Bone stock long block down to the crappy E6 heas 13.1@102
Adding stock 87-95 E7TE heads I went 12.9@103

Lonestar 5.0 10-19-2011 09:21 AM

Wow that is good do you have a standard or auto

Scones 10-19-2011 10:07 AM

I'm a twin turbo C4 auto guy now, but back then I was rocking the stock T5
Biggest mistake most guys make with these cars is too much exhaust too soon. I did that through stock ported headers and stock h-pipe dumped after the cats. 3.73 gears. LOTS of gutting and lots of practice banging gears.

Lonestar 5.0 10-19-2011 10:24 AM

That is good to know. I have a Aod right now but hope to put a T5 in soon. I also would like to do a gear swap but where I live I need a gear for long roads

Lonestar 5.0 10-19-2011 11:04 AM

Has anybody ever gone 10's with a stock long block and a power adder. That would be cool

Scones 10-19-2011 02:52 PM

I'll find out soon with the twin turbo set up. Last time it was out it coasted to a 13.1@116 letting off at the 1000ft mark (blew an intercooler pipe). Since then I have added a larger thottle body, ported stock heads, and a C4 auto, bigger intercooler and pipes, drag suspension and slicks. Also have some bigger injectors. If it can get enough fuel I don't see why a 10 second pass would be out of the question.

StealthStang 10-19-2011 05:06 PM

I am interested in your times also. You are using stock heads Scones?

Holy crappers:lol:tup

Scones 10-19-2011 08:20 PM

yeah, stock E7s ported by Schlodes.

SNAKEBITE 10-20-2011 05:25 PM

I did not know he did that kind of work, very good

Lonestar 5.0 10-21-2011 09:06 AM

Did you have to change your valves when you had your heads ported. Sounds expensive

I went 12.81 at 105.49 88 Gt no engine mods on a 26x8 slick. Had pulleys, ram air thru headlight ,3.55gear,no sway bar,sd steering, heavy billet flywheel, stock headers and H pipe with 2.5 dynomax mufflers and turn downs.

As far as nitrous I new of a guy in Halifax that ran a 11.33 on a stock motor. but after 3 runs had to give up to motor damage. He had bent push rods and #2 main cap had split. To bad but if oil pressure never dropped he was thinking the car mite have gone a 10.90. I remember at the time thinking he was a nut. I talked to him years later and when he pulled the car apart it had issues from front to back....broken cap/bent valves/ clutch was toast/axles turned on spline.

Lonestar 5.0 10-22-2011 11:53 AM

I have a group of friends up here that say a stock 5.0 won't go faster than the 13's. I say what do they know they all drive imports lol. I think I am going with 3:55 gears to wake the car a bit. The roads here are long and you have to drive forever to get somwere around here so tall gears are out of the question

StealthStang 10-22-2011 01:12 PM

slap nitrous on it, just dont over rev it, it wont be good but you will go faster alot faster

Scones 10-22-2011 10:20 PM

Only getting 2 gears, 3rd doesn't some to be working so putting off track day till I get that figured out.

SNAKEBITE 10-23-2011 12:39 AM

what do you figure the problem is off the top

Scones 10-23-2011 08:56 AM

shifter cable or linkage issue....i hope

SNAKEBITE 10-23-2011 07:51 PM

that would seem like an easy fix for you, good luck

Lonestar 5.0 10-24-2011 11:27 AM

That is too bad. I was interested to hear about your results. Turbo's are cool

StealthStang 10-24-2011 03:41 PM

sounds to me like you dont have your linkage set right. Have you tried to shift it at the trans into 3rd

SNAKEBITE 10-24-2011 05:29 PM

I am really starting to like the turbo whistle

StealthStang 10-24-2011 07:23 PM

I really the turbo kick

SNAKEBITE 10-25-2011 03:45 PM

The only turbo I have ever driven was an 81 T/A and that thing took forever to spool up and even then not a ton of power. I have mentioned this in the past but thank God for modern technology

StealthStang 10-25-2011 04:35 PM

I have seen blown349's car go and wow totally different from when it was supercharged. Way better as a turbo

Scones 10-26-2011 12:39 PM

Bah, this trans issue is pissing me off. Wishing I would have stuck with T5s, even if I had to replace it after every track visit it would have been better than the b.s. I've gone through lol.

SNAKEBITE 10-26-2011 02:37 PM

sorry to
hear bud, good luck

StealthStang 10-26-2011 03:17 PM

stick with it, once worked out the work real well

SNAKEBITE 10-26-2011 07:40 PM

you sure hope so
