New member looking for tech advice/help.
Hello all, I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for pointers on my current project build. It's an old BMW with the drivetrain from an 89 Foxbody 5.0L.
I brought it to a local shop and had the transmission and engine mounts made but now I have it back and I'm a little overwhelmed. I'm looking at making a to-do list and thought I'd run it by a group of Mustang enthusiasts.
Engine/transmission mounted:
Interior is bare:
Box of Mustang parts:
So my thoughts are:
- Fuel - I had installed a Walbro 255lph fuel pump earlier that I will wire for the Mustang ECU. I will also need to run new fuel lines as the BMW had some weird inline parts in the fuel system (evap stuff).
- Ignition/ECU - I'm running a completely stock ECU and wiring harness that ran the engine when it was in the Mustang I pulled it out of. I am a little confused by the system, I have the wiring from the ECU to the motor but I can't remember where the wiring that powers and control the fuel pump come from.
- Coolant - I'm a little worried about fitting the radiator so I think I need to switch to an electric fan setup and I'll try to use the factory BMW rad and some universal coolant lines.
- Driveshaft - I'm going to take the two driveshafts to a local driveshaft shop and have them fab something up.
- Exhaust - My goal right now is to just get the engine running and the car moving on it's own so exhaust is low on my priority. The headers and collector are already built so the rest should be simple.
- Lights - Again I just want it to run but I think I'm going to make a simple system for the headlights, taillights and turn signals.
- Steering - I'm going with a non powered steering rack so this is pretty much done.
- Brakes - I'm using a different master cylinder that is meant to fit with a larger engine and was used in this shell previously, this shouldn't be too bad but we'll see.
Anything I'm missing?
This may not be the best place to make this thread but it made sense to me .

Wow looks like you've got some work ahead of you, it should end up a pretty cool ride when you are all done though. I've got to say that your questions are over my head but there should be someone here that can help.

The closer to spring the more motivated I become.

Here's a guy on another Mustang forum that did a similar swap, then had the car up for sale later ... not sure if it went to a new home or not. You can likely glean some info from the thread, and maybe message the person for additional help.

Thanks, I will. It'll probably be a slow process.
