[QUOTE=Ponyryd. I have seen different sized drives and was unsure of what they were from, like I said, I am not an engine builder........ At least I pointed him into a USEFUL direction instead of ignoring his entire post and telling him he's SOL . Captain.[/QUOTE]

Who says I'm a self-proclaimed tech guru? I was nominated on the site and believe it or not, I've helped many members here. If you have a problem with my award, or think I don't deserve it, take it up with the site/admin. (white_snake)

Do it right as C.S has mentioned as it isn't that big of a deal to fix. Hell sell the car and buy one with the right pump & drive is another fix...

Well, having built alot of engines, this is the first time i come across it,
Alot of engines and you've never heard of this?

I have seen different sized drives and was unsure of what they were from, like I said, I am not an engine builder.........oh, and I must've missed the first day of "guru" training where they covered that.....
Gurus giving engine advice should build a few first shouldn't they?

Arrow update on shaft problem!!

Well looks like mellings put the wrong pump in the wrong box,you would think that a company that big would make sure, but i guess not,,and beside's there is no difference on the outside, unless you look rite into the shaft you would miss it,thats what i get for depending on the manufactor. :
So it looks like im pulling it out on sat mornig,,wish me luck,,hopefully nothing will get scratched,,il send some pics this weekend, see yah's

Hey 82306!
I guess you dident read what i said about me spending 3 monts on filling and finnishing in try-coat paint in the engine bay!
Thats why its a big deal.ive been waiting 20 years to build this thing, after building other ones for everybody else, after loosing my shop,my house and marriage, and the onlything ive been able to hold onto is this car,so YES it is BIG DEAL to me.plus the fact that ive be doing it in a driveway,so next time you got something smart to say, keep it to yourself
,,,and yeah,i am a liitle touchy about it!

If making the point to do it right is being 'smart' then I guess I am guilty. If you have waited this long so far (as you pointed out) then the small amount of time it will take finishing it off properly is more then worthwhile.

It happens thats why you check everything before installing it. Never take anything for granted - thats right from the smallest part to the most expensive. The Mellings box will have a number on it '#68' for 302 or '#83' for a 351 & a 'HV' for high volume if the pump is so. As well the same number is cast into the body of the pump.

I cannot tell from your posts/thread you've been unfortunate and have had these misfurtunes recently so please don't hold that against me. I was addressing the fact you built 'many engines' and had never seen this before & you were searching for a shortcut to fix the problem.

I am truly sorry to hear about your bad luck hopefully when the car is done it will change for you.

Good luck.

i dont understand why you wounld need to pull the motor anyway. Ive changed pump and drive in an 89 GT before. Just raise the motor and drop the pan. Dont pull the pan out. Work around it. There is enought room. This way you wont have to pull the tranny and all the wiring and fitings. Just maybe the fan shroud and of course the engine mounts
