short belt

my 89 lx is due for an e-test,i've been running a short belt (eliminating smog pump)for about a year and a half.I am going to put my original belt on for the test, but i have heard that it is common for the pump to sieze when it is not in use for any period of time.Just wondering if any one has had this problem, and any ways i can tell other than putting it on and have the belt burn right off,i've heard that even if you can manually spin it can seize once running....Either way i could be screwed
Little off topic but does anyone know of any good e-testers in t dot..

i heard the same thing!, be sure not to try and oil the inside of the pump as it will mess it up worst!....hook the belt up and run the car....leave the hoses unhooked and feel for air coming from the pump....if the pulley is siezed you'll know prety quick as it will more then likely squeel!

I'm planning on doing that tonight, hopefully all is well or else this e-test is going to cost me a fortune.I already have to replace my cats too..I think in future i'll just keep the stock belt on. It's not worth a couple hp....

your right in that case, and by the sounds of it, this summer the cops are gonna be aggressive with modified cars, not having an emission control device hooked up could be a hefty fine, and like you said, the hp gain is minimal...i've never delelted anything to make more power....other then my old V6 engine..it got deleted for the 5.0..LOL....but i kept all emission and A/C.....good luck with your e-test...i've gotta do mine too before i get a new sticker!

I had all my smog pump stuff in a box for two years until it was time to do an etest, slapped it all back on when't for the etest. Passed (barely) - had one bad cat- and that was it for etesting my car ever again.

I wish it was 2009 so i could fall under that 20 year exsemption too...I looked at the drive clean site, there trying to get rid of exemption rule for cars beginning at 88 or newer, they will have to be tested regarless...BASTARDS.

On a side note my brother and i took his 88 mustang to be tested last week it is bare bones drag car no pump, cats are just the shell 750 dp carb..Failed the first time, the e-tester who knows us said he would play with the idle a little, sure enough it passed on the second time..He told us it must have good cats,my brother and i just smilled at each other.
