Sounds like there are some possible changes for the upcoming model year. A possible bump in horsepower for the 5.0 and lots of talk about a Mach 1 model to sit in between the GT and GT350. 10 speed Auto tranny seems to be on the way as well.

Some cosmetic changes as well with a new front facia and rear bumper cover. Interesting...

Since I am waiting a bit to get into a new Stang this makes my decision making a bit more interesting although my plan is to get into a GT350

The '17 Raptor has a ten speed auto transmission, wouldn't be surprised to see a version in the next generation Mustang. A new Mach 1 would be cool , wonder where they go next with the design changes?

 

Personally I'd like to see them do something different. I never got this whole faux muscle car return thing. Instead of trying to rehash the old lines onto new cars(where it just doesn't work at all) why not go somewhere different with the mustang ?

 

I disagree, they need to stay true to the history of this iconic automobile. Obviously a modern take but not lose the classic lines of the original version of the car. I was sceptical of the s550 design but have since changed my mind. Its a great blend of modern and classic mustang.

They can always improve of course but making a huge and complete change in platform and body style would not be welcome. Take a look when they were going to make the Probe the "new Mustang"

To come out with a new version model over and above the Shelby versions and Mach 1's , Cobra's etc would be strange as there is no attachment to the name.

My point was that they have been trying to capture the "classic lines" of the mustang for a long time - and they all look the damn same. You could offer me a brand new mustang free, and I wouldn't take it. They are just trying too damn hard to be something, without a good understanding of what that something is.

Buyers today don't give a about classic mustangs, as most people buying new ones weren't alive, or even aware of the other mustangs when they were around.

Stop trying to be a muscle car, because their are no more muscle cars. The last muscle cars rolled off the line in the early 80's, now it's just cheap imitations to play on nostalgia

 

I beg to differ, this is the golden age of the muscle car we're in right now. You've got more factory horsepower, exceptionally better handling and braking than was ever available in the past. There were no muscle cars in the 80's, because everything was choked back to 250hp with emissions controls, so it was all decal packages and body kits. Today, you have a number of domestics available with well over 500hp, right off the showroom floor, how is that not a muscle car?

Styling has been updated, and I think its a great tribute to those old classics to have some of the iconic styling cues get a modern refresh. When the retro S197 platform was introduced in 2005, it turned me into a Mustang fan.

I'm not discounting the classics, but I flat out think you're wrong in saying there are no muscle cars anymore, prices have changed for sure, but it was always that way.

GT350, Mustang GT, Hellcat, Camaro ZL1, Corvette Stingray, even the Raptor...all available to be ordered from your local dealers, all high horsepower muscle. I'm almost willing to bet the new Raptor has less body roll than any "muscle car" from the early 80's. lol

Hell, even the Ecoboost base Mustang makes 300hp, that was my 2006 GT's numbers, and that was scary fast.
