Fairly sure it's not 2.5", those are just adapters to fit a 2.5" catback. The Cobra/GT exhaust isn't even 2.5... it's 2.25" at points, 2" others on the crap flowtubes...

Thanks both white snake and flynnt. I'm pretty sure it's 2.25" because i also did a random web search for factory '96 mustang pipes and seen mostly 2.5" cobra pipes. Because i know (accordiing to my knowledge) that the cobra pipes are a bit lager, i figured the 3.8 v6 pipes would be smaller in size.

Cobra is the same size (STOCK) as the GT pipes. I haven't compared to my V6 pipes but they didn't look any different. My Cobra has 2.25, GT exhaust I have is 2.25, I'm guessing the V6 has a single 2.25" pipe instead of the duals..

A V6 has a 2.25 exhaust. The easiest way to upgrade is to use the pacesetter dual conversion kit. There are also V6 dual catted h-pipes available as well.

In my case I put on a 2003 GT takeoff after installing the pacesetter h pipe.

Worked out great on my 97
