About to buy a Roush Mustang
Hello everyone!
I'm new to these threads, and did a bit of searching, but couldn't find what I'm looking for. I'm hoping you guys can help me out here, or point me in the right direction.
I'm about to buy a pre-owned 2008 Roush Stage 2 Ford Mustang GT, that has been upgraded a second time with the 427R powertrain, and wheel/brake upgrades. The Roush Stage 2 kit was installed at a Roush shop, while the 427 upgrades were not.
The car seems to be in immaculate condition, however I have not taken it out for a test drive yet, or taken it into a Ford dealer to do a quality check, dyno test, etc.
Since this car has been upgraded, and a lot of parts aren't stock, I thought I should come to you guys and ask for your expertise. What are some things I need to be aware of before buying this car? I'm aware that these cars are expensive to maintain, and upkeep, but at this moment, before I make the final purchase, what are some things I should check? What are things that can easily break down, or go wrong on this car?
Thank you for your time.

Ok, here are my thoughts. What 'roush' shop did the work? I wasnt aware one existed.
When dealing with a newer car that may retain some warranty such as the '08 may, I would expect no less than:
1) receipts
2) carfax / carproof. is this car a US car? If so, I say avoid it.
3) its a modified ford. Know now that there really isnt any decent shops around.
They are nice looking machines, but are you stuck on Ford?
Better yet, are you stuck on a modified Ford? Go test drive an SRT8 charger or something, you might like what you see and it wont be modified.
This is similarly priced to the roush above..
imo, way cooler.

What's wrong with a Ford? You make it sound bad without giving any reasoning behind it. I've always had a thing with mustangs and now is my chance to finally buy one, that's why.
I don't want an SRT8, I have no need for an SUV.
I'm really not sure if you're taking this seriously or not.

Ford trucks are where its at. Can't knock them. As for the cars themselves, well, they just aren't very impressive IMO. I mean, the more late model stuff is certainly nicer, ie: 2010+ from what I have seen. Infact, the 2008 I posted up certainly doesnt look bad, there are just other better alternatives out there if you are looking for nice looks and power..heck, the z06 isnt that far off a modified 2008 Roush pricetag.
So then, there you go. Mustang is for you. I certainly don't appose you getting the car, its just of my belief there are better alternatives especially since you are considering a modified vehicle. Wanting a modified car makes me believe you are looking for better handling, power etc. There are better stock cars than a modified 2008 Mustang and to boot, you would be able to get dealer warranty on something stock sold at a real dealer (not some offlease dipshit place)
But if you like the modified roush, then by all means.
SRT8 is where its at. Test drive one.
Honestly...I am naked and looking at gay **** but I am taking your post seriously still regardless if I am working up a feverish sweat.
I understand you are buying in Canada, but it doesnt mean the car wasnt brought in from the US. Check it out and if its just a Canadian car then no worries, run your carfax and get an inspection. If its from the US just be weary as the paper trail generally ends at the border.

Thank you for the response. It was the deal that caught my attention to this particular mustang.
The price was affordable for the condition it was in, with the upgrades it had. I just came here to see if there were things I should look into specifically with this model before buying.

If you like the Roush, go for it. If it were me I certainly would due diligence some of the things I mentioned like the receipts, car fax and overall history of the car.
When you say deal do you mean smoking deal or just what you are willing to pay for the car type of deal?
Good luck with the purchase. I am sure a few others will chime in with what exactly and specifically to look for in that model. Note, I believe there were also some recalls for the airbag and headlamps on the 2008 Mustang. Perhaps they have been covered??? Ford Inspection is key.

Definitely going to take it in for an inspection. I didn't know about the recalls, thank you.
The deal was $29,000 CAD for the car with 30,000 km on it, and all the upgrades.
The seller is an older gentleman that has no need for a sports car anymore. I was looking online, and I found a lot of used 2008 mustangs with more kilometers on it go for around $20,000 Cad, so another $10,000 for the upgrades, little use, and perfect condition seem to be a good deal in my books.

I think you are chasing after a fine example of a modded Mustang as Roush has been around for a few years to say the least. In fact if I did not purchase the car I have now Roush would have been next on my hit list. I think that since the car belonged to an older gentleman it more than likely has been well cared for. As an example I am closing in on 50 fast and the car has been literally babied i.e. no spinning of the tires, no hard launches 3850 kilometres with 219 coats of wax/polish well you get the idea.
The only thing I would do is take the car to a 3rd party Ford dealer and have him go through the car thoroughly. Sure it will cost you some money but to me it would be cheap insurance as you are spending roughly 30k. Good luck and I hope it all goes well.
