Fuel Additives

Anyone use Fuel Injector cleaners or any Fuel additives?

-PLOTNIK- 09-16-2010 05:56 PM

Lucas or sea foam

SNAKEBITE 09-16-2010 11:34 PM

None here

4 CRUZEN 09-26-2010 03:20 PM

None here either

VAEM 09-26-2010 06:53 PM

I've never used any either, with the exception of a little fuel stabalizer over the winter.

SNAKEBITE 09-26-2010 09:20 PM

Actually the mechanic on Motoring says it's a good idea to use, anyone disagree?

My GT seems to have a slight stumble at light throttle/cruising speeds the last couple of months between 2500 rpm to 3000 rpm. After using the STP stuff,it helped a bit,my next step is to try the Seafoam stuff as most do recommend it,and say it works really well.
I wish now i had at least used injector cleaner once a year.Fuel does leave gumball like crap in the fuel system no matter what you do,and eventually will catch up.I remember back in the day with my old 5.0L that was carb'd,i would rip the carb apart every season to give it a good cleaning.plus regasket, and sure enough, right there in the fuel bowls,i would wipe out gumball like stuff from the fuel sitting in the fuel bowls over the winter. That is with using stabilizer also. It's not as bad for vehicles that are driven daily,it's the ones that sit like our weekend/seasonal drivers like our mustangs.

Cheap insurance, and cheaper than getting everything all ripped apart and cleaned. I'll throw in a bottle every once and a while.

SNAKEBITE 09-27-2010 12:32 PM

Well then I shall do this as well. What's the best/good stuff?

I always run a tankfull of STP cleaner every oil change, never felt a need to do any more.

I found article on web, about how crappy our gasoline really is and aint't getting better.adding synthetic 2 stroke injection oil as you fuel up 1 oz per 5 gal, lubricate your fuel pump, injectors, intake track, just good all around protection,,,,actually runs quiter, smoother and slight increase in mpg,

Wow - you first dude. There's no way in hell I would add oil to my gas - where the heck did you read that, and what proof is there it would be any good? I call internet tom-foolery on this one, adding oil to your four stroke gas engine can't do much other than foul things up and kill a lot of mosquitos with all the smoke. Either that or I'm missing something. Holy macaroni.

Don't know how old the article was or what country it applied or what brands it applied to but in Canada the spec on fuel is fairly strict.

All 87 generic regular made by any canadian refinery for sale in Canada has to meet a specific spec.

It is then either sold as unbranded with no additives (usually sold at non major branded retail sites).

Most of the majors sell their gas with an additive package that is beneficial to mpg as well as cleans injectors, reduces carbon buildup on the valves and so on.

Octane increasing additives are added to 87 to boost it up to the higher rating numbers.

Even ultra low sulphur diesel is much cleaner than the regular diesel of a decade ago that was packed full of sulphur.

Personally, I always use an additive every couple of tanks of gas as well as gas line anti freeze in the winter months (to deal with moisture in the tank).
Never had any issues with clogged injectors or fuel filters.

Oh my!!!!:?

seafoam is AMAZING STUFF...put one third in oil one third in gas and one third in a vacuum line...as far as vacuum line goes let the engine suck it up thru the brake booster line .Once its sucked up shut off car and let sit for about 20 mins then take it out for a high rpm run. Then carbon it dislodges is unreal and it disolves sludge in crankcase...my mustang when i bought it had 120000 kms,it stumbled a bit at idle so i followed the directions on can and it runs as good as new so i decided to put it in my 99 silverado with 245000 kms and the black gunk from my tailpipe told the story for me.To keep internals and vacuum system spotless use it every 3rd oil change...jmo....go to bob is the oil guy forum and see the stuff the engineers there have to say ....

as if....kiss your o2 sensors goodbye...that crap will leave carbon built up all over them....i call bullxxxx...mavel mystery oil used PROPERLY oir lucas upper cylinder treatment will improve mileage a bit if you FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON BOTTLE...overdosing just fouls sensors quickly...i swear by seafoam

pprince 11-21-2010 04:58 PM

I use fuel injector cleaner in my Fusion every once in a while.

My 65 does not get anything.

SNAKEBITE 11-21-2010 05:45 PM

Seafoam seems like a popular choice

Daryle 11-25-2010 10:36 PM

I find I gather negative vibs when i say,Yes,,,,x1 oz per 5 gal gas,full synthetic 2 stroke oil,all pluses,no negative so far.
-good for lubricating fuel pump, injectors, internal engine[no dry starts or washing away oil]slight increase in mileage, smoother running and this has been tested by another group of Techs,so your not a guinne pig,Our gasoline is crap and the ethanol is no help,it attracts water,I could go on, If you love your baby???
