I really really really hate to ask but if the car is in a heated garage (60-70F) does this need to be done? I have never heard the squealing 1low has described.

Does not matter the temp it gets stored in, you should ALWAYS remove your belt...
It is less stress on the bearings and belt.
You don't remove it in the summer cause you drive it once in awhile.

That's actually a good idea.I'll pull it off tomorrow after work.To lazy right now.Besides,i'm gonna have to get a new one.Mines looking pretty dry on the stang, still the original belt LOL!
I actually thought though you were talking about the winter beaters LOL.It seems that as soon as it starts to get cold,my tensioner starts to sqeek on my '06 F 150!Had it replaced last year under warranty, along with a new belt, and it does it again when it is really chilly out!Never had this issue before!

I've never removed the belt either - makes perfect sense.
