You can bolt up a set of Pony's or any other stock rim and have no issues aside from maybe rolling the qtr. panel lip. Go read any of the how to's and check the wheel fittiment section. You are correct in saying you can swap to the stock Mustang axles and this would still allow you to fit a 10" rim in the wheelwell. Do the math first!
I wasn't saying that there weren't ways to make it work, just a little annoying and a lot of trouble to swap in if you already have an 8.8.....I was using factory 10 holes on the street with 245 or 255 rears, and when they wore out I had some damned wide Hoosier Dirt Baws (BEST street sticky ever made....crap at the track though)
