I wasn't really a fan of the Probe or late model Cougar - too bubbly. Which is funny considering I own an SN95 - the "roundest" of all the Mustangs. LOL.

I bought an 81 Cougar, that a guy did some cosmetic work to, and it even had 5.0 badges on the front fenders, and centerline mags. It actually sounded real mean, but I always felt it was really underpowered for a 302. Then I had to replace the heater core, and after taking nearly half the dash apart, I finally took it to a mechanic buddy of mine, and completed the work. When I went to pick it up, he asked why it had 5.0 badges on the fender, but didn't have a 5.0 under the hood. I thought he was nuts, but then he explained to me that it actually had a 255 V8. At that time I didn't even know they existed. Needless to say I was a bit pissed, especially when he told me they were rated at 119HP at the crank. What a joke...I mean they make 4 bangers with way more HP than that. Anyway, just thought I would share my, not so funny, story!

'81 was a bad year... the 255 was the only V8 in the Mustang as well. I could handle the early '80s fox based Cougar/T-bird, but the giant boats of the mid/late 70s never turned my crank.

I like the first gen Cougar, I think they had a pretty mean looks and they are so rare to see now. Growing up my mom had 2 cougars, a midnight blue 91' with a 302 and silver 94 with a 4.6.
