the heads are off the car, stripped down and washed in varsol.going to the head porter tomorrow.my titanium valves are at the machineist being modified to fit the 4.0l heads.the trans is coming out and going for a rebuild with performance parts.the block will be getting bored out .020" next week for the new forged pistons.

VAEM 06-18-2012 09:24 PM

Can't wait to see the dyno sheet when shes all back together!

ex91 06-18-2012 09:27 PM

If it don't run 11s I can see a 100 hp shot of go baby go

rampant racing 06-19-2012 07:39 PM

titanium valves are finished and being shipped back to me tomorrow.the guy was real fast,he just got them yesterday.wow!

rampant racing 06-20-2012 06:25 PM

heads are being ported and the valves will be home on friday.i am hoping that it makes 450rwhp when all is said and done.that is my hope anyway.only time will tell.

If you are able to answer this what is your final goal for the rocket?

i would like to be the fastest/quickest 4.0l mustang with a single power adder in NORTH AMERICA! as far as i know this record is held by bob (brumby) over at the mustang collective in the states with a current time of about 11.65 with a turbo charged 4.0l in a 2007 mustang.it is a lofty goal but i always say go big or go home, lol.:tup

rampant racing 06-23-2012 04:52 PM

trans is out of the car and in the back of my truck.off to strathroy on monday for the upgrades i want to do.the new converter is a 3200 stall custom made by level 10 just for my combination of parts and tune .it has a new hardened input shaft from level ten aswell gauranteed not to break even under the most severe conditions.i am getting pretty stoked about the build now.gonna be a surprise to all the unsuspecting v8 crowd for sure.

rampant racing 06-24-2012 04:37 PM

well after realising that my pypes headers are way too small(disgusting actually) for my application i have decided to scratch build(of course) a set of 2"od stainless headers for my motor.the pypes headers are smaller id.than the exhaust port and that will only get worse after the porting is finished and the ports are opened up for better flow.the exhaust is basicly hitting a wall when it is trying to leave the head and choking off the power.keep in mind that my motor makes in excess of 500hp and is a v6 so each cylinder bore is putting out more horsepower than a 500hp v8 is.would you put 1 3/8 id headers on a 500hp v8?no you wouldn't so why does the aftermarket not offer us a better product for the v6,even the stock motors are too powerfull to be using a small header tube like that.the stock manifolds flow just aswell if not better .so i just happen to have a set of stainless haeaders that i built way back when for my 23t altered with 440 dodge in it laying around that i am going to cut up an repurpose for my needs.also gonna use high flow cats to keep it flowing.it should really let the motor breath.afterall i have ported heads, big valves.custom intake manifold and a ported throttlebody so why leave a set of crap headers on it just cause nobody makes em better.the spirit of hotrodding is alive and well in this little pony.

1low03gt 06-24-2012 08:40 PM

That's a crappy deal Gary!! Maybe you should send some messages to some of these companies that make these headers, and help them out. :D

ya think they would listen? i don't speak chineese jay, lol.:lol

rampant racing 06-25-2012 09:00 PM

i'm having the flanges for my headers water jet cut out of 1/2" stainless steel.heads should be done in a couple of weeks aswell.pistons get fitted late this week or early next week.

rampant racing 06-26-2012 03:52 PM

just got a call from the trans shop and it isn't good news.the trans is totally shot.both the forward and direct drums are welded together and all the clutches and steels/pressure plates are shot all to hell.time for a complete rebuild .not cheap.

rampant racing 07-01-2012 12:04 AM

time for a little update, the header flanges are finished and turned out beautifully.the trans is awaiting arrival of a rebuild kit from level 10 in new jersey with the best parts available for this trans,i have made a trans dipstick for it seeing as how ford never thought it was important, lol.i found a nice set of 3into1 header collectors for the build at cone engineering in california made of 304 stainless.block gets bored next week and the rotating assembly gets balanced before reassembly.heads are being ported n polished and titanium valves installed.

rampant racing 07-02-2012 10:21 PM

well the rebuid kit from level 10 showed up today for the trans and i bead blasted the heads in preperation for the new valve job and final porting tweaks.hope to have it back together by august 15th.

1low03gt 07-03-2012 08:28 PM

Awesome to hear Gary. Too bad it couldn't go together sooner! Most of the summer will have passed.

yea your right.most of the hot power robbing summer will have passed, lol.i ain't missin it.i love the rebuild/modification stuff.it was just too stock for me.now it will haul ass jay.11's or bust! oh wait i already did that, lol the bust part at least.:tup

1low03gt 07-04-2012 08:34 PM

You do have a point LOL!!.... On both counts LMAO!!

here is some pics of some of my parts.i will post pics of the stainless header flanges tomorrow.i made the trans pan dipstick adapter seeing as how ford doesn't offer one.

here's the stainless exhaust flanges i had cut with a water jet.they will fit 2"od header tubes.the pypes headers i was using were puny and choking off the motor.see the difference in the pics.:tup

here's the torque plate i had cut with the water jet.it's bolted on when honing the block to simulate the head being bolted on and the stresses and distortion it causes.:tup

VAEM 07-09-2012 07:03 PM

^^^ Nice :tup

rampant racing 07-10-2012 03:48 PM

crank and bits are gone for a balance job.gettin anxious now, lol.

rampant racing 07-11-2012 10:17 PM

trans came back today, rebuilt top to bottom with a few mods to make it last longer.should work better than when it had no clutches left in it,lol.

rampant racing 07-12-2012 09:53 PM

heads are 75% complete and looking great.also found head bolts that are almost as strong as the arp studs and 1/10th the price.the stock head bolts are torque to yield 12mm torx head junk that caused me a real pita to deal with and the arp studs i need won't be ready for some time from the manufacturer arp.so i have been looking for an alternative and i found 12mmx1.75x140mm grade 12.9(176,000psi) socket head cap screws at fastenal for the huge sum of $2.15 each.the arp are 200,000psi but are originally made for a 5.9 cummins diesel with 60PSI BOOST so i should be ok with the ones i bought and 18psi boost.

this is a mockup of my header collector and cat arraingment i am thinking of using.this will be for full length headers but i may still make them a shorter style.will wait and see what fits best in the car i guess.

rampant racing 07-19-2012 05:36 PM

got my custom made hardened 4140 head washers from the machinist, got my v band clamps home, ordered two more stainless cones from cone engineering for my headers.heads will be finished by sunday.gonna shim the springs a wee bit for some added insurance but honestly with the lightweight titanium valves i should be good to go.waiting for the block to be bored and the crank to be balanced.

rampant racing 07-23-2012 02:18 PM

block and crank will be back by friday so a coat of paint and bead blast all the aluminum parts and get em powdercoated or paint em.several key pieces will be getting chromed aswell.the manifold top and tb mount, fuel rails, fusebox and master cylinder covers to name a few.i also have a set of aluminum valvecovers off an earlier 4.0 that came with them that need some trimming of mounting spots for other things i don't have on this engine.after trimming i will sand and polish them on my buffing machine and send em for chrome.

heads are all ported and polished and cc'd.they flow 239cfm and 178 cfm @.500"lift.they will be assembled and installed soon.

rampant racing 07-26-2012 11:14 AM

just got the call,my block is bored and honed and ready to be picked up.now the fun begins.just waiting for the crank to be balanced now.

rampant racing 07-26-2012 06:03 PM

just got a call ..the crankshaft is finished.balanced and polished,$375.00.block bored and honed $250.00,port n polish, valvejob and custom valves $1600.00,pistons and rods$1200.00(i got a deal from A buddy in the states on the pistons)plus all the rest of the needed parts and gaskets.lets not forget the $2800 for the trans, input shaft and new converter.putting the shortblock together this weekend.YES!!

rampant racing 07-28-2012 12:16 PM

painting the block today and putting the shortblock together on monday.heads are being cut a small amount to clean up the gasket surface.motor should be together by next weekend

rampant racing 07-28-2012 06:35 PM

first coat of paint is on and looking good.doing the motor in bright red tremclad put on with a brush not sprayed.much better control as to where it goes and where it doesn't.oilpan and other aluminum brackets have been bead blasted and now i am debating on if i should clearcoat or not.probably will.

rampant racing 07-30-2012 06:03 PM

got the crank in today, still waiting for some gaskets and new rod bearings.was going to reuse the rod bearings because they were in perfect shape but decided against it cause i am using different rods.had i been reusing the stock rods i would have reused the bearings they were in such good shape.gaskets are real expensive on this thing.rings are fitted on the pistons already just waiting for bearings.second coat of paint went on the block also.
