Yeah it's bound to happen a few times till you get the hang of it. The way I look at it is there is lots of warranty on it so go out and have fun. If it breaks Ford will fix it. I'll post a new thread when I get the shifter installed.

Well it's been a couple of months now and what can I say that oem shifter is getting the boot I have ordered a new mgw short shifter kit. When this car is cold that shifter flat out sucks it is so notchy and I can't consistantly nail that 2nd to 3rd shift than the 4rth to 5th shift is another troublesome shift I finally said screw it I looked at a few shifter kits and just liked what the mgw was a more complete package.I have to wait a few weeks for it to arrive but it gives me a chance to watch the install a few more time so it shouldn't be much of an issue to install.Anybody out with a mgw or barton or other short shifter kits.Which one did you choose and why? How is it compared to the oem?

I have a Barton but never installed it. I guess I'll pu it up for sale here tomorrow. The reason I chose Barton was that I read a lot of positive feedback and ford racing has rebranded the Barton as Ford Racing's unit.

Generally no problems with trans and shifting on my 13 GT. I do have trouble making a smooth shift 1st to 2nd while whipping the poor car a bit. It is probably my technique and I seem to be slooowly getting the hang of the shift. I am surprised people have trouble with 2nd to 3rd, that is my favourite easy shift. All I have to do is poke the shifter with the tip of my bird finger and it goes 2nd to 3rd like a hot knife in butter.

I have found that if I don't pay attention shifting is real sloppy. I think the setup requires practise and learning. Forcing a shift seems like a bad idea, but using the right technique and going for accuracy in placing the shift lever seems rewarding.

Miner999r thanks for the reply where my real problem seems to be when I'm hustling along in the twisties and i'm going through the gears I am missing shifts when i want to 5 th to 4rth I'' sometimes go into 2nd etc I know I should be a little gentler but holy crap we really have some twisty roads here.I go to vancouver quite often I have a section of highway 70 km long with hundreds of corners some as slow as 30kph to some 60 to 80kph so it just sucks when I miss a shift especially the freakin slow ones not that I want to speed or anything like that

Well what can I say I finally got the mgw shifter and it has been installed and oh wow what a difference. This shifter has some substance,it feels a LOT more secure in your hands when shifting along with how shall we say more feel where you are in the shift pattern.I have not noticed any gear noise at all in fact I think it there is less noise now.I haven't missed a shift yet and I'm more confident in shifting in a more aggressive fashion which might cause me problems down the road with the local forces. If anybody is interested go ahead ask any questions and I will try my best to answer them.If you are thinking about a shifter change really look into that mgw shifter it's more money but when you see complete the kit is and how it built by cnc and hand it is quite impressive when you open the box and see how much work goes into this kit and what comes with it.

I got my '13 GT in April. Haven't really had an opportunity to drive it much. I only have about 1300km on it. It's a 6 speed.

I have read about the 2nd to 3rd shift, but I'll be completely honest in that I haven't beat it up yet to even experience this. What I do experience is when going from 2nd to 3rd, I feel like there is a little grind happening. This isn't under WOT. It's just simple driving around the city. You can only really feel it in the shifter, and it's not audible.

Anyone else experience a symptom like this?
